I even wore this (and it was crazy hard to take this picture too in my blog photo studio...er, bathroom. Fashion Herald, I don't know how you do it.)
They were not so much good luck charms.
We attended a party with our church friends. Oddly we were just about the only Colts fans. Most everyone was either cheering for the Saints or were team-neutral. One man (Saints fan) even made the comment, "oh no, did Peyton just get his jersey dirty?". I thought that was pretty funny. After all, in the world of football, Peyton Manning is a demigod. You can't watch a game without hearing someone (or many someones) say, "and that is the brilliance of Peyton Manning." We are huge Peyton fans too.
Last night, of course, was Drew Brees' night. We held out hope. Even after the momentum of the interception and 74 yard touchdown. Was that the longest touchdown run in Super Bowl history? I missed what the announcer said. I was having to quell JBB's mini-meltdown. Even until the Colts last possession of the ball and despite the look of sheer nausea on Peyton's face, I was holding out hope for some kind of touchdown/on side kick/possession/another touchdown/sheer nonsense rift in the continuum of time and space. Since none of that happened, I felt like someone kicked me right in the middle of my blue jersey.
Until I saw this.

As a football fan, it is impossible not to enjoy that kind of moment. Impossible not to be happy for a team that has just won their first Super Bowl ever. Even I had to concede a quiet Geaux Saints.

I loved that photo too. That little boy looks just like his daddy.
I love the Colts and Peyton, but I agree with you 100% about that picture of Drew Brees and his son. And tonight Drew was on David Letterman. He is just a precious person. If the Colts couldn't win, I am tickled to death that the Saints won - for the team and for the city of New Orleans!! xoxo
I definitely was rooting for the Colts but I am happy for the Saints and Mini Brees is so cute.
We were cheering on the Colts at our place too - but I found it virtually impossible NOT to be happy for the Saints after all they've been through. I remember during my own team's heyday (I'm a Redskins fan so we're back a good 15 years here) seeing the "Aints" fans with paper bags over their heads in the stands all over the Superdome. Then with Katrina and all that went on, it was just a feel good story all around. And Peyton will be back, probably playing his little brother, in a couple of years anyway.
I was the only Saint in a house of Colts. LOL;)
And I tear up everytime I see this picture. I watched him on Letterman last night, and he's such a great guy who loves his boy. So sweet!!!!
what a nice family affair. p.s. i hate football:-)! but i would join in the festivities!
Oh that picture made get all misty eyed all over again!
That picture brought tears to my eyes. What a moment!
I am in love with Peyton Manning though, Eli Manning too. My husband knows all about my crush and teases me that I'd probably leave him for any of the manning brothers, or even Archie! Haha. I was sad to see the Colts lose, but seeing the Saints win was very heart warming.
Great photo--thanks for posting.
It is moments like the photo that remind me how much more important being a parent is versus even a Super Bowl game.
Both my husband and I were rooting for the Colts, but we both agreed it was nice to see the Saints win.
One of our dear friend's family lost everything from Katrina 5 years ago, with the anniversary of that terrible storm here and mardi gras it made me smile that the Saints went from not having a home 5 years ago to winning the Super Bowl.
Plus, Brees' little boy was SO CUTE on that field just looking around and then looking at his daddy. Like, 'Wow Daddy! Do you see all these lights?!!'
It was one of the best games I've seen in while. But then again I'm from Cleveland... and we watch the Browns... so not being devastated was a nice change.
That night is forever a classic now, as it should be. Love this post Miss Lipstick, and JBB's outfit was perfect, as was yours!
Smiles at you,
tp
I saw that scene on television after my husband made a point of rewinding the Tivo to make sure I saw it. What an adorable moment for them to share. Just wanted to check in and let you know I'm still reading and I'm not one of the ones you lost after your controversial(??!!)post. (Still trying to figure out what might have been offensive about it.) Anyway, my brain is currently rotting from a combination of too much cold and snow and being cooped up inside with two stir-crazy kids. Stringing two or more words together is difficult at times. Hope all is well with you.
That drew is a class act and I thank you for your quiet geaux saints...We are over the moon about it here...
Being a lifelong fan of the Saints, formally know as the "Aints" it gives me great pleasure to hear all of your kind words despite being an obvious Colts fan. Many of us in New Orleans have a great love for the Mannings, given all that Archie brought to our team, so I'm not sure there would of been many hard feelings if they would of won. The winning moment showed the country what us Saints fan already knew, we are a force to be reckoned with and Drew Brees is one of the greatest men, on and off the field! Who Dat, Whot Dat, Who Dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints!!!
@emchelle...thank you for such an amazingly kind and gracious comment.
