I am that way with everything. If I love something, I LOVE it. A good example is the burritos from the Mexican joint up the road. An even better example is the Twilight series. Ah, yes...all things do point back to Twilight, don't they? Well, I love those books and have read the whole series so many times that it is a joke at work. I (purposely) lost count; just too embarrassing.
Even though I have been ordering the exact same burrito combo from the aforementioned Mexican joint for seven years, I decided that I couldn't keep reading Twilight forever. It might have been beneficial to have had this insight a few thousand pages ago, but whatever.
One thing was for certain; I just wasn't ready to give up reading about vampires yet. I shouldn't be surprised. Mommy Lipstick loved Bela Lugosi's Dracula,
although she has made the switch to Team Edward quite seamlessly. One of my dear friends from high school has always loved vampires. She fell in love with Lestat from the Anne Rice books and told me that she just never could quite accept a vampire that sparkled.
Well, I can understand that, and she knows a thing or two about vampires. She always dresses as one for Halloween, but more importantly, she is NOT aging. I saw her last summer for the first time in sixteen years and she looked exactly the same. I am un-dead serious.I digress. Desperate for vampire drama and preferring instant gratification, I decided to try out True Blood on HBO. It is based on the series of novels by Charlaine Harris (which I'll probably begin reading...oh, immediately). I am still trying to become accustomed to this guy as my new vampire
(why is he better looking in real life than on the show) and also some of the fundamental differences in vampire "rules." I cut my teeth on Stephenie Meyer's world of the immortals being the most beautiful, but in True Blood, no one is more beautiful than (mortal) Jason Stackhouse. Maybe I'll find out in the books, but how could Sookie rescue Bill in the beginning, and why does the shape-shifter simply change into a dog? And finally, did HBO really mean to cast Joel Osteen's wife as herself, er...I mean, as the wife of the crazy pastor of the Church of the Light? Yep, I think they did. Could it be that I'm already addicted to True Blood? Yep, I think I am.

I may have to check out True Blood, but I don't know if anything will ever measure up to my beloved Twilight (glad I'm not the only one out there)! I am counting down the days until the New Moon release and I have read the series oh, I guess at least twice (okay more than twice, but whatever). Love this post!
Oh dearest Lipstick! I starting reading Sookie a couple weeks ago. I love the series. The first book was a little rough, but 1/2 through #2 I was hooked! I am on #5 now. I have issues with Sookie's grammer and clothing choices, but am getting over it... I think you will love the books (story is a little different from series.. esp Jason)
I have only read twilight, but I am about to start new moon. Everyone tells me to read slowly, because life isn't the same after one finishes the series!! haha!!
I am soooo addicted to True Blood too! I have NEVER missed an episode! For some strange, unexplainable reason, I can't bring myself to pick up the copy of Twilight on my shelf and read it. WEIRRRD.
Oh and don't you think it's funny how Jason Stackhouse is played by an Australian actor? I saw him being interviewed the other day and was like WTFF - give me my backwoods Bon Temps back!
Hahaha. My kids are addicted to True Blood too. However, they say that this season, sorry to tell, does not live up to the first one. Thoughts from the knowlegeable?
Oh, Lipstick, you know I share your Twilight obsession. My husband told me I needed Twilight rehab.
The thing is, I never liked vampire books or movies. Or I thought I didn't. I never even tried to read a vampire book before. And I hated the Interview with a Vampire movie, maybe because both Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt looked horrible IMO. So Twilight is the extent of my vampire mania.
But a friend of mine is totally hooked on True Blood. She told me she didn't think I would like it because it has a lot of gore, and I don't like that sort of thing. So I don't know. Also, offhand, I don't find anything appealing about that haggard-looking vampire whose photo you posted. I think I like beautiful, sparkly vampires better.
;-)
Oh, how I share your love of Twilight and can hardly wait til New Moon comes out! I am in serious need of some new vampire reading and will check out True Blood. Great post!
I must admit I am one of the few people not watching TrueBlood or any other vampire movies? Dont hate me. LOL.
I've never seen True Blood...so this is what I can bring to the vampire conversation: I am TOTALLY a Breaking Dawn girl!! And? The chapter "Fire and Ice" (aka tent scene) in Eclipse. Ohhh...loved it, loved it, loved it!
The Sookie Stackhouse books are excellent but don't get your heart set on True Blood to follow the books exactly. So far "some" of the original book is and has been used but alot is different from the book. Another vampire series I have come to love is PC Casts The House of Night series you might enjoy it also.
Oh, Bela looks good. Nobody ever looked better in a tux and cape than he did. That True Blood guy just doesn't do anything for me. He looks like some of my patients:(
Sorry sweetie, better stick with Edward.
Mommy Lipstick
I've read all the Sookie Stackhouse novels and LOVED them! I was so excited to see True Blood, but I have to say it was really disappointing for me. Really gory and the vampires weren't all that good looking--especially Eric. He's much better looking in my imagination. Plus, it's a lot different to read about gory things in a book than to see it on TV. Really graphic stuff! Also, the show doesn't follow the books very much at all! Books always seem to be better than the movies!
I am not into Twilight...heck I rarely have time to read the paper, nearaless a book, ha
I'm hooked on the show and am just about done with the 2nd Sookie Stackhouse book - so good!
I always liked the Anne Rice vampires. Marius was my favorite.
This is too funny Miss Lipstick, clearly either the Twilight series or this one would have us hooked in a heartbeat, so we shall continue our 'abstinence policy' for both! And Joel Osteen's wife? That one was new to us!
Hope it is a fab Friday and even better weekend!
tp
I love True Blood! And I def agree with you on Jason..yummy!
Oh, I am TOTALLY addicted. AND? I think maybe I'm a little in love with Eric.
I just discovered true blood--love xoxo
