One Day at a Time

I used to have blond hair, mainly because my highlights slowly took over my whole head. Thankfully the highlights are all gone; my hair is completely grown out and totally healthy. Then why, why, WHY do I have an almost irresistible urge to start the highlighting again? I miss that young and hip feeling that I had when my hair had streaks of blond. I seem to have convinced myself that I will feel young and hip all over again if I have some highlights. The only problem is that back then I was young and hip. Now I am in my 35th year and have worn my hair in a ponytail for two weeks straight.

Have you seen Valerie Bertinelli lately? She has most definitely de-frumped herself. Here is the before...
Here is the after...I've gotta say...VB is looking pretty hot and I am totally inspired. My other constant source of beauty inspiration/envy...The Jen.
And while we're on the subject of beautiful people, look what I just had to have at the end of my grocery run today. It was a truly necessary purchase. Really. Since Mr. Lipstick is in need of some lawyer-ly clothes, I simply must examine some of the latest trends in menswear and who better than GQ to guide me along the way? That's sounds plausible, right?

I knew she lost weight, but holy cow.... I need to print those up and hang them all over my house for inspiration... (and of course Robert's picture right along with it..)

Valerie is looking hot. And, loving the last purchase - he's such a hottie. :)

I'm just saying... i kinda like that one piece that VB is wearing in the top photo. My a** couldn't even get close to fitting into that itty-bitty-bikini. Whatever!!

And I, too, bought that issue of GQ. Uh, HAD TO - my love is on the cover! I was really impressed by ALL the sexy men in all the ads too, however... and GQ may just find its place on my subscription list now!!

My random thoughts on your post. A) Don't highlight. You have a beautiful shade of hair. Look at those pix you posted a few months ago when you first got your hair cut. There are women who pay loads of money FOR that look. Plus, the maintenance on highlighting sucks! And you could spend the money you'd spend on something fab like kickass high heels or skinny jeans. ;-)

B) Valerie looks great but I will never understand celebs who lose weight and go on magazines to show it off. Doesn't she know in 3 years when she weighs 30 pounds more, they'll show that photo and it'll be the BEFORE photo??

C) I read the GQ article at the salon (when I was getting my dreaded highlights! I know of what I speak!) and I must say, I am in love with Edward but not Robert Pattinson. He seems a little bit of a head case. Nothing like soulful Edward. The pix, however, are HOT HOT HOT.

Have a great day!

Go for the highlights. You're never too old to be young and hip!!!

I think you should get some highlights if you want them! Tell the stylist its only for summer and to keep them sparse. You can always low light in Fall?

Valerie does look fantastic, huh? She's such a doll!

VB was on Oprah and it showed "behind the scene" footage from that shoot. OMG. She looked great! And that pic is not airbrushed (or so she says).

I heart Jen

I heart Edward

I think you should go for more highlights if that's what you wanna do! I'm all for it!

You are too cute Miss Lipstick, but we totally understand the need for wardrobe advice for Mr. Lipstick!
Smiles coming at you,

VB is totally air-brushed on that magazine cover. Yes, she looks a LOT better than before, but they really overdid it with the air-brushing.

I can understand about the high-lights. Even a ponytail looks better with highlights.

Whoa, those GQ eyes!
maybe you just go in and get a few highlights for summer?? but they don't have to be blond!

VB looks fab. Her latest commercial is amazing. Good for her. I hope she is able to maintain.

I love your hair & current color. I have to highlight and wish I didn't have to, my natural color isn't a pretty brown so, that is my story. I envy those who look good natural... Either way, you look great!
