Advice from Truvy

I have a gut feeling that y'all are devotees of "Steel Magnolias" and can instantaneously recall lines of dialogue with military-like precision. After all, that movie is amazingly accurate. Sweet Tea really is the housewine of the South, and let's face it...most of our blogs are decorated in Blush and Bashful.

Remember the scene outside the beauty shop in which Truvy says, "I wear a size 6, but a 7 feels so good, I buy a size 8." I am here to tell you, that is true!

I have worn a size 6 forever, but lately my feet have been hurting all the time. I kept ordering fabulous size 6 shoes from Zappo's, only to return them all. Then last weekend I unceremoniously tried on a size 7 at my fave consignment shop. Ahhh...it felt fabulous.

After picking up some super-cheap-chic consign-o-fashion, I headed to the Mother Ship. Yep, Tar-jay. I found theseon sale and only available in a size 8. Driven by money burning a hole in my work purse, I tried them on. I uttered a gasp that was audible on the next aisle. My feet felt as if they had entered the heavens.

I have worn them three times this week and I am convinced that is the best $24.99 marked down to $19.99 that I have ever spent in my whole life. Still though, I feel silly that I was so painfully unaware of my actual shoe size. I hope my feet stop their expansion though; I am way too short to wear a size 9.

This is so true! I still have a size 6 1/2 pair of shoes that I refuse to give up, but my current shoe size is an 8! This is what happened to me after two babies.

Those are really cute shoes. I might have to venture over to my local Target and look for them. With my luck, they will only be in a size 6 1/2!!!

Ok, something weird in reverse has been going on with my feet. I have always word and 6.5 or 7... on occasion I bought 6 if I was desperate. Now my 6s are the only things that fit. I walk right out of my 6.5s and 7s!! its killing me!

I had that same Truvy voice in my head this past week, while shopping for shoes! I bought a new black suit and thought I will look for some cute black shoes. I started out trying on 7's, then 7 1/2 then back to 6.5's. After almost convincing my self they just needed to be "broken in." I gave up. I went back home tried the suit on again (never looks the same as in the store dressing room) and put on the pair of size 8 pumps that I had bought when I was pregnant (you know I my feet were swellling then) and thought these will do!

Miss Lipstick, this is why one should never ignore the 'Truvy voice' they hear!

This is priceless, probably because it hits quite close to home, thank you very much! Yes it does indeed. We rarely buy an eight anymore. Rarely.

Hope you have a splendid week ahead!

I don't understand women and shoes. My Mrs. has to have at least 50 pairs, probably many more. And her feet always hurt, so I assume they are the wrong size. Podiatrist recommended orthopedic shoes. She cried the whole ride home.
Then when I suggested we start throwing out all those old shoes, I thought the poor woman was going to have a complete breakdown.

I have 2.

I think I have been a size 10 since the day I was born.

The hubby and I just went shoe shopping for ourselves (so selfish, I know!) and he found that he is no longer a size twelve, but a size 13. He was shocked, but after being pregnant caused my feet to spread, I knew that it was probably all of the weight he's put on over the years, and I told him so. 'Cause I'm a sweet wife like that!

This is a great post! In honor of both Steel Magnolia's and Fashion, I'll leave you with one of MY favorite lines from the movie:

"The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize."

Truer words have never been spoken.

Miss Lipstick!!! The number of movies that I can watch over and over again is very small. But Steel Magnolias is right at the top of the list. So many gems.
And Tar-Jay Boutique is my most favorite store on the planet. Such a shame they're not in Europe. You can be sure that not even the Christmas shoping mobs can keep me away when I'm home in December. I think I'll need to make 5 or 6 trips... at least. Those shoes are super cute.
Since I've been in France about a week and a half, I have seen many chic French women carrying the 'work purse' you mentioned a while ago. I think of you every time I see it. So did you get one for yourself?

weird about shoe size, right? I'm always going between a 9 and a 9 1/2 - it's like my winter weight gain for feet.
