MidWeek Happiness

Mr. Lipstick and I have a deal. Since I take the kiddies to school in the morning, he gets them dressed. The three of them are quite efficient with this process which usually leaves time for a Mr. Lipstick concert. He sits at the top of the stairs with his guitar, JBB chases Pretty Girl around, and Pretty Girl claps and giggles. This little bit of chaos is utter bliss for me. It is the perfect background for my last minute wardrobe adjustments and jewelry selections.

This morning Mr. Lipstick was singing one of the songs he has written for the kids. When he got to the part about them growing up and moving away, his voice froze. Utter silence. JBB, of course, immediately started asking questions and saying, "but Daddy, I won't ever move away." I knew why his voice was frozen...the same reason that my contacts were starting to get all fuzzy from the tears in my eyes. It was a clear violation of the weekday morning ban on emotionally wrenching songs, but it was beautiful nonetheless.

In other (birthday) news...today was the day for my At Work Birthday Cake. The At Work tradition is that everyone gets a cake on their birthday, and I was more than happy to postpone my Cake-Day for everyone's convenience. Far be it from me to attempt to extend my birthday; I mean, I've got to be professional.

My At Work Friend selected it at the nearby bakery that we all love. At Work Friend is another super-cool pharm-mommy friend of mine. She is very detailed and precise, has excellent taste in restaurants, and has really beautiful teeth. She is a new visitor to Lipstick-land (cyber-wave), and y'all...guess what? She picked out my cake to match my blog!!I told ya she's cool.

And one final thought...I need, NEED some comfy shoes that I can wear with dressy/work pants. I was thinking of these. What do you think? Are they too ugly-ish? I am in a fashion conundrum. My gorgeous shoes are making my legs and back hurt. Since I have not perfected the sexy yet chic limp, I have been wearing comf-ugly shoes. What do y'all wear?

Yay for cake at work!

Not sure of the shoes. I'm almost partial to going to full on ugly yet comfy. Then people know you just need comfy shoes...and that you know they are ugly too.

That's how I justify wearing my Dansko clogs every day in the winter, at least.

I sit for most of the day, but do a lot of walking at the end of the day across town to my parking garage, so I can sympathize.

I always wear heels...It's my thing. My most comfortable shoes to wear are 4 inch heels with a 3/4 inch platform. I'm not lying, they're comfortable. The platform is key. So, make sure any shoes with heels have a sturdy platform.

How incredibly thoughtful that she had the cake match your blog!
and i so love it that your husband sings to the kids in the morning - what a wonderful way to incorporate music in their lives daily.
I like the shoes, they're "ugly cute," my favorite kind of cute! But also look at Biviel's, they are comfortable and ugly cute too!

Personally, I don't like the shoes but I always choose very classic looking shoes. And, omg, cute cake!!

I'm a total fan and endorser of the birthday month. Love the cake!

Shoes - I (and especially having the bad back I do) LOVE and LIVE IN my Danskos. I know they're not the most fashionable, but they are SO comfy. AND, they have come out with a lot of new materials - I'm on my way to purchasing the black patent leather.

Also, there is a company called Sanita - they make shoes for Dansko (or something like that) - I've seen some of theirs in fabulous snakeskin.

Seriously, they're great.

Also, check out Crocs - they've got a new line called Crocs by Me or something like that - they're made in Italy. OHMommy at Classy Chaos blogged about them a while back (after I had just read about them in a magazine) and said they are HEAVENLY. And she loves herself some stilettos.

Let me know how you make out!

I am all about some ugly comfy shoes for work. We spend too much time on our feet in our profession to be miserable all day from painful shoes. The cry baby patients we deal with every day are bad enough---Go for the cute ugly shoes!!! I personally wear Born and Merrells to work.

I avoid buying work related shoes online, what with work being what it is. I have a pair of slides I love and I've found a "wedge heel" works better for height in a trouser as it provides a little bit more support/balance.
