If you didn't see it, you missed a bit of glossy and expensive propaganda. Obama looked young and handsome, intellectual, enlightened, and dare I say it-messianic.
You may not know it, but he will rescue you from the job that doesn't pay enough, the medication that is ineffective and unaffordable, and those pesky terrorists (not William Ayers though, he's ok). He promotes a culture of prosperity (but don't you make over 250K...er, 150K cause that's enough) and wants to bring CHANGE to our lives.
One thing is absolutely certain...a candidate who believes that bigger government and more services are the vehicle to bring about peace and wealth will never make the lives of the American citizens less burdensome and more productive.

I am so glad I did not watch it. Obama supporters are so sure that the election will be a landslide. Then why is their canidate having to buy time on a network and having a 24 hour channel on cable?
Amen, sister!
Agreed. Glad I didn't watch it. I probably would have thrown something at the TV. But that would have been Ok because I am poor and maybe Obama would buy me a new one.
I second that AMEN, sista......
I watched it. And as someone who is voting for the man (so in essence, I guess I'm a supporter, although it's more like voting for the least-icky in my opinion), I thought it was just OK. Slick production value. It does bug me that the figure is now anyone making less than $200k vs. $250k. That's the best way to lose credibility in my opinion - to go changing the numbers on tax figures.
Nomers (your first commenter) said Obama voters are sure the election will be a landslide. Nothing could be farther from the truth with some of us. I keep thinking the undecideds will go to McCain - better to vote for the devil you know vs. the devil you don't sort of thing. I also still think this country has too many racists to actually vote in a black president - maybe I am wrong.
You say he believes in bigger gov't and you might be right - but he said 3 times during the infomercial that some of these changes will not result in addt'l expenditures but as a result of cuts elsewhere.
I also think the William Ayers thing is a lost cause. The man surrendered to authorities 20+ years ago, served his time, and is now a member of society as a teacher as one of the most prestigious universities in the country. He served on an educational board with Obama and 7 other business and academic leaders. A board funded by the Tribune company, if I'm not mistaken, and funded by a man who worked for Reagan. The Ayers thing is just McCain/Palin throwing jello at a wall and seeing what sticks.
I really like you, Lipstick, and I'm glad we can have a debate and still enjoy each other's blogs.
As if I didn't write a long enough comment, I do have one further comment to make. On your 'undecided' post someone said Obama posters are only looking out for themselves and voting for him if they will get a tax break. This, again, could not be further from the truth with a lot of his supporters. My husband and I will see our taxes go up under Obama's plan. I live in a very affluent community (most are more affluent than we are - we're the "poor" people of the nabe) and almost every house has an Obama sign in its yard. People living in what I would term 'mansions' are supporting Obama. Many of us don't vote based on our wallets. We vote regarding things like environment, schools, war, and other non-fiscal issues. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Casa O'Kara did not watch the Barack-O-Mercial. Instead, we watched a Batman re-run until the smoke, mirror, and light show was finished.
The thought that keeps popping into my head is..."When will he take a portion of his wealth and re-distribute?"
I didn't get a chance to see it- I was too busy studying! But I think I'm glad I didn't since I've heard the commentary this morning.
I grew up near Chicago and back in 2004 when he spoke at the DNC I thought if he ever ran I could actually vote for him.
I think Mom x2 is correct- sometimes you pick the least-ick option. I waited to decide for sure until I knew who Obama was running against. Its the lesser-of-two-evils decisions. You will never agree 100% with any one candidate.
Oh, and Lipstick I am SO glad you got your yardsign. I did evil things in my old hood last election with my yardsigns so my husband will not let me get yardsigns any more. He says he doesn't want to mow around them, but I know its really because he doesn't want me to stir things up.
We will see you tomorrow for trick-or-treat!
I dont believe McCain is the less of two evils... I think he's an excellent choice....
I am absolutly bother by all the Obama - celeb bullshit..... is he running for Mr. America?
Anywho, I hate to say it, but it looks like Obama will when... everyone in my office is for McCain... and they all are losing hope... some say why even vote, which kills me.
Great post Lipstick
Girl,
You sound real smart. I'm gone start stoppin' by here more regular.
Eve
i'm too the point now, that the sound of his voice makes me nauseous....so, i didn't watch it. instead i helped my kiddos get their costumes together....time far better spent.
I'm so glad I had to be elsewhere last night & missed the Obama love-fest. Gotta love the audacity of the change of those income numbers so much. Doesn't give me too much hope.
To all who say they want better things for our country, at what point do you stop looking to the government to provide them? This is a never-ending issue - there will always be something that isn't up to par (education, poverty levels, income gaps), and there will always be something for the government to claim to fix. Enough is enough. They're not doing well with what we've entrusted them with already. Why should we give them more?
Oh Miss Lipstick, you are such a good writer. Honestly. We cold sit and struggle all night and never be quite as eloquent as you are.
We did not watch the infomercial. Anymore political ads and TP's head will explode. Honest.
:-)
I am writing as a UK resdient with a late US step-father who always voted Republican and a mother with dual nationality who also voted Republican when she lived over there. My views: we live in an interconnected world most of whose economies are in one hell of a mess bacue of very greedy, unregulated financiers, Wall Street (US) and City (UK) traders and their like around the world; I believe some effective Government regulation is required to control these parasites who do not create wealth but gamble with the wealth that other people have created. The environment: the free market destroys environments unless there is effective control over it. People are naturally self-centred and greedy... not sharing and caring; without government and laws etc life would be 'nasty, brutish, and short...' (Hobbes) which is just what it often is in countries without a strong ( and democratic) government. Natural resources... these are finite.... the free market cannot recreate them. When the last drop of oil is drained from the ground;when the last cubic meter of natural gas is extracted, the 'market' cannot recreate them. The Bush ( republican) administration was all for BIG OIL.. hence the mess in Iraq ; they were all for an unfettered Wall Street; hence the mess the western economies are in now; we could do with a little more contol... that doesn't mean socialism. In any event people should use their vote which ever way tey decide to cast it, but if I were casting mine I woulnd't cast it for the party that has overseen the current finacial mess. Apologies for any typos/spelling eroors, all typed very quickly... before the Russians turn our gas supplies off!
holy crap! forgive me! I cannot spell worth a damn, I just stopped by to check by in on your other commentors.
I don't care what political side of the fence anyone is, anytime someone says "spread the wealth", that equals socialism, period.
Socialism has never worked, period.
Barack Hussein Obama doesn't have the experience, period.
Character does matter, period.
I could go on.
Oh and I tagged you, go see my blog for details :) Sorry
I'm so glad I didn't have to watch that BS last night. His too long regular commercials are annoying enough as it is. I like my commercials to be quick and to the point - not some long lecture where a minute into it I'm saying, "Is he STILL talking?"
Mom x 2, you say that you think we have too many racists in this country for Obama to win, but I am seeing the exact opposite - hoards of black people voting for the first time simply because Obama is black. If that's not racist, then I don't know what is.
you will be 'booed' on my Friday post- beware!
Since I'm a Southern girl living in England, I only got to see snippets of the Obama-mercial. The first thing I thought when I heard about this was- how many hungry people could you feed with all that money he spent on the airwaves? How many HIV infected children in Africa could get some anti-retrovirals with all that money? How many people whose homes are about to be foreclosed could be saved with all of that money? Think of a needy person and what all that money could do for them.
The second thing I thought was: he has all this extra money because of his broken promise. He promised to use public campaign financing. He broke that promise earlier this year. What other promises did he break in the Obama-mercial? Looks like $250k has gone to $200k. I'm quite certain that is only just the beginning.
Obama will change this country for sure. He will bankrupt businesses. Many more people will have to rely on the government for their very survival. Whatever happened to the American dream of self-sufficiency? Is half of America really that lazy? Good Lord, please help us. And please don't choose Obama. He is a devil that you DO know.
You said it, Momma.
Shannon- Oklahoma will be McCain. I just don't know how that will play out.
We'er going to go vote tomorrow.
For McCain.
Very well said, my dear friend Kellie.
I got my yards signs (three) and put them in my yard yesterday afternoon. They look so good! Katie had to help me by putting up a sign of her own, too.
you crack me up--LOVE THIS POST>
I support and respect Obama for many reasons, but especially for his years of community service. And I don't dislike McCain, I actually think the Ayers mud slinging is beneath him. But mostly, the night before the election, I keep thinking of my parent's excitement when JFK was elected into office, and how all Catholic Americans must have felt. Can you imagine how African Americans feel at this moment? Monumental. I think the vote is coming out tomorrow in historic proportions. Cheers to our US democracy!
