Well I Was Born in a Small Town

I hope everyone had a fabulous and safe Independence Day! We are now home from the House of Grandparents, and the kids are so hungover from grandparent fun that they are still asleep!

Our trip began interesting enough because we left on time! I was packed and ready to go as soon as I got home from work which is monumental because I am never this organized. But I think I am hooked on the whole plan-ahead thing because it was so stress free. I even took the time to do a self-pedi.

We had been on the road no more than thirty minutes when JBB said, regarding nothing in particular, "Mommy is that sexy?".
What?!? "What sweetie?"
"Is that sexy?"
"Sweetie pie, that is a grownup word. Do you know what it means?"
"What does it mean to you Mommy?"

We had a safe trip to grandparents, stayed up late visiting, and slept late on the fourth. Pretty Girl just couldn't get acclimated to her surroundings and as a result I carried her around the WHOLE time. Here we are:

We had a fabulous late lunch of bar-b-q and all the trimmings. This got me to wondering if people are most loyal to the first bar-b-q they ever experience. You know how people in Texas think Tennessee bar-b-q is just crap, and people in Tennessee are like, "they have bar-b-q in Texas?". Well, we had bar-b-q from Sparky's, the same place that we have gotten it for the last...hmmm, my whole life. I swear it is the best in the whole wide world. At least to me.

I did tell my mother about my blog because I can't keep anything from her. It's just how it is. But...she liked it. Except for the occasional spicy language. She told me that was tacky and I shouldn't write that way because I was raised right. So I got almost complete endorsement.

That night we watched fireworks in the little town where I grew up. We sat in a little porch of this church:
The town is the accidental beneficiary of the prosperity of suburban sprawl. This time I saw a new Walgreen's and two new red lights. At the celebration, there were lots of lawn chairs with old folks and kids and teenagers trying to look cool. There were cars everywhere...all domestic and lots and lots of Mustangs (hood scoop, racing stripes, Flowmasters with chrome tips...klassy). I think the Lipstick-mobile and an old Honda Odyssey were the only imports around.

While we were sitting there, a man appeared from nowhere to talk to my Daddy. Not unusual because as a pastor, he knows pretty much everyone. I had a feeling it was going to be a long chat when he sauntered up and asked, "Do you know if Rev. Timberlake (JT's grandpa) keeps honeybees? I think he got them from the pastor before him...." This man talked forever. and ever. and ever. I tried to think it was charming a small town way--you know, unintentional reunion via town event--but he just talked way too long. I was finally able to snap this pic once he got all the honeybee info and as you can see I was not the only one grumpy about the long honeybee convo.

The fireworks finally began and were sufficiently impressive. Not quite the Macy's fireworks (thanks for sharing Fashion Herald), but we enjoyed nonetheless.

The rest of the visit was comprised of lots of playing and eating and the only napping was done by me. I even got a massage on Saturday morning. It was fabulous except that CountryMasseuse's phone rang...three times. "Iz zhis an E-mer-gen-see?" she barked. She is still amazing and will come in just for me when I come to town. I tipped good despite the phone call because I think I've got a pretty good thing going and I don't want to screw it up.

We are now home safe, sound, and all worn out. There is much cleaning and laundry to do, but I'm thinking the ninety degree weather calls for some pool time. I can't believe it's back to work tomorrow. Ah, the Monday after a holiday...

Just wanted to tell you that all those girls in the photo I met through my blog. We're IRL friends now, but weren't before! They are the best.

Sounds like you had a great 4th! You have some wonderful parents and husband to let you take the naps when the babies are awake.

And nice pedi! I think you did a better job on yourself than I got from a professional last time.

Love your pedi and those sandals are darling!

Every year we watch 4th of July fireworks at my parent's church. It's your typical Congregational church on the town green. They have hot dogs, popcorn and soda as well as games and bouncy things for the kids to play in. Then we watch the fireworks from across the river. It's so much fun and we have a spectacular view.

Sounds like you had a great vacation. It will be hard to get back to the grind tomorrow morning. Good luck!

Oh Miss Lipstick... it looks like a really lovely 4th! We love that the Country Masseuse came in to take care of you! The Sparky's bar-b-q sounds more than luscious... they just don't make that up here like they do there. And you know I am not even going to try!
Pretty Girl does look a little disconnected... but she still looks sweet as pie with you holding her.
Glad you had a nice time and actually snoozed a little... you were ready!
Happy Monday!

Regarding your baby's question, "Mommy is that sexy?", there is a old joke in India...

Once a kid asks his father "What does sexy mean?", father get surprised and answered..."When a lady looking beautiful, we call her sexy..." Soem other day, the mom of that kid was being ready for a function and the kid said... "Mom, you are lokking so sexy today..." :|

Akash...that is so funny! I can't wait to tell Mr. Lipstick!

thanks for the link! I'm going to put up some video as soon as it stops downloading (taking FOREVER) but do people really care about fireworks after the fourth??!
So glad you had a great trip! TRAGIC about the high school building. My junior high in C.R. Iowa was hit hard by the flood, and old building too. I'm thinking many GRRRRRs for you!

What a lovely account of your trip home! Do you live far from your Mom and Dad? I felt like I was there with you!

LOVE your pedi AND your flip-flops. So cute! And you did a great job yourself. Yay for some more pampering and relaxing once you got there.

Does your dad really know JT's grandpa? Who would've known he's a reverend? Not me! Wonder what he think's of his dear grandson's relationships, especially his past with Britney!

Thanks for sharing!

PS I've been meaning to ask you forever, do you have a signature brand/color of lipstick??

Sounds like a great weekend. I had to laugh about what your mom said...when E busted out with "Sh!t", we all blamed my mom (who watched her 3X/week on teaching her that!

Hey Mommy Rach! Yes, my daddy actually knows JT's grandpa. It sounds more exciting than it is. JT's grandpa has been a pastor forever, and his chuch is in a small local association with my Daddy's church. Daddy has known him since the JT Mickey Mouse days. It's weird to think that JT is this international star...I guess I always thought that family members of big stars just quit their jobs and basked in the reflective glory of the famous one. But he is still the pastor of the same church and still does the same community activities. No moving to Hollywood for them! I did see JT's grandma in People magazine once, and it was weird...kind of like seeing someone you know in the local paper.

As for my fave lipwear...I love L'oreal H.I.P. lip gloss (with some Estee Lauder liner). I love it because it is cheap, stays on, doesn't make my lips peel, and I have this crazy notion that it makes my lips look fuller.

Love your pedi and flip-flops! I obviously ADORE Texas barbecue (but only when done properly - brisket is cut AGAINST the grain, people!!) - and if it makes you feel any better, most Texans, myself included, are amazed to find out that there are states other than Texas! :)
