More About Mr. Russert

Hubby is still studying, the kiddies are in bed, and after having already fallen asleep on the couch, I am now wide awake again, being kept company by the internet.

It was a week ago today that Tim Russert passed away. I woke up this morning and found myself sad just thinking about it. I guess even I didn't realize what I fan I really am. I had been kicking around the idea of another post about him, about how I want to Russert-ize my life. His priorities were never skewed by his passions.

If you want to see someone who had it all, this is the man. He had an amazing work ethic, a vigorously brilliant mind tempered with a sense of humor and an ever-present humility and respect. He was uniquely devoted to God, to family, and to work. In that order. When I think of Tim Russert, I think of a man who got it right.

I have to thank one of my fave blogs Ashley's Closet for posting about this. At the conclusion of Tim Russert's funeral today, that Hawaiian/ukelele version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was played. Moments later, a very rare double rainbow appeared over the Washington sky. You can't make this stuff up. Grab a kleenex and check this out.

Wow Akash, I am so honored that you like my blog. I wish that I knew Tim Russert personally. I have just followed his career for a long time. I guess I really learned the most about his personal life from the eulogies from his colleagues. It was so amazing how person after person after person said basically the same thing about his devotion and priorities. Another cool thing he did...whenever someone in the office at NBC would have a baby he would write them (or the child) a personal handwritten letter...a welcome to the world of sorts.

I checked out the youtube site, and boy, did I ever cry. Something about serious news anchors choking back tears that makes me lose it.

You are very right about Tim. I think we all have something to learn in the way that he conducted his life. I saw that video, too, and it really does give you chills down your spine.

His priorities were never skewed by his passions. I don't think there is anything stronger that one could write about a person.
